The Nehru centre presents a solo exhibition by London based artist, Amber Jagtiani, marking her U.K. debut. This collection of her works span over a period of eight years. Her introduction to art began at a young age, being the daughter of a renowned Indian artist. Her roots are in India, and says it’s the best place for an artist as it is visually so vibrant, full of colour, and stimulates all your senses. Amber has had some formal training through art classes and courses over the years. But mainly she says it was her belief in her creative genes that made her pursue her love of painting. It is the number of hours she has put in her work that has helped her discover what her true style really is. Amber is a lover of modern and abstract art, so it was only natural for her to steer in that direction. She confesses that abstract can sometimes be vague and ambiguous, but for the artist it is simply an expression through colour, shape and form. Amber has spent equal number of years in India, Bahrain and London. She says “what you see around you and experience, stays in the recesses of your mind and gets translated in your work". She describes her style as varied and eclectic. Living in Bahrain exposed her to Arab architecture which she loves and it is demonstrated in some of her works in the form of arches and domes. Tribal art is also of interest to her, as they use their drawings to express their identity and tell stories. Amber uses acrylic paint and says it’s the best medium for her. Her works are on Canvas, paper and cloth. She says different surfaces result in different textures which always adds interest.
